I spent a couple months looking into building a DIY ring light, I love how it leaves a circular catch light in the eyes. My build was 21 inches using some pretty serious LED lights, two rows. The first design was wood, with a silver reflective material mounted with glue to intensify the light. I added a dimmer but found out that it will almost always be a full power. I have since found a plastic mold that I am attempting to convert to a ring light. My first model was Kelly, I have known her since second grade. We shot in my dungeon of a studio in Portland, Oregon, I like the unfinished, industrial walls for a backdrop. I am still learning this technique and made a few mistakes like turning off all ambient light....this added a warmer tone to all the images, a few I desaturated.
